BAT99-9 – a WC4 Wolf?Rayet star with nitrogen emission: evidence for binary evolution?

چکیده

ABSTRACT An analysis of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) WC4 star BAT99-9 (HD 32125, FD 4, Brey 7, WS 3) shows that still contains photospheric nitrogen. Three N emission features (N v ??1238, 1242, iv ?1719, and ??3479–3485) are unambiguously identified in spectrum. cmfgen models yield an N/C ratio 0.004 ± 0.002 (by number) a C/He $0.15_{-0.05}^{+0.10}$. Due to similarity other stars, good fit achieved by both classic spectrum lines, we argue lines intrinsic BAT99-9. examination limited set rotating for single-star evolution at LMC Galactic metallicities model with metallicity (z = 0.014) progenitor mass around 50 M? can have similar to, or larger than, what observe significant fraction its lifetime. However, 0.006) inconsistent observations. Both single binary BPASS predict many WC stars their While cover wider range luminosities provide somewhat better match BAT99-9, it is not currently possible rule out being formed through evolution, given uncertainties mass-loss rates, treatment convection mixing processes.

Star cluster ecology II. Binary evolution with single-star encounters

Three-body effects greatly complicate stellar evolution. We model the effects of encounters of binaries with single stars, based on parameters chosen from conditions prevalent in the cores of globular clusters. For our three-body encounters, we start with a population of primordial binaries, and choose incoming stars from the evolving single star populations of paper I. In addition, we study th...

The Evolution of Compact Binary Star Systems

We review the formation and evolution of compact binary stars consisting of white dwarfs (WDs), neutron stars (NSs), and black holes (BHs). Binary NSs and BHs are thought to be the primary astrophysical sources of gravitational waves (GWs) within the frequency band of ground-based detectors, while compact binaries of WDs are important sources of GWs at lower frequencies to be covered by space i...

Stationary states of irrotational binary neutron star systems and their evolution due to gravitational wave emission

We have succeeded in obtaining exact configurations of irrotational binary systems for compressible (polytropic) equations of state. Our models correspond to binaries of equal mass neutron star systems in the viscosity free limit. By using the obtained sequences of stationary states, the evolution of binary systems of irrotational neutron stars due to gravitational wave emission has been examin...

Binary Star Measurements with the Star re

Four binaries, 10 UMa, UMa, 81 Cnc, and UMa, were observed with adaptive optics on the 3.5m telescope at the Starrre Optical Range on March 24, 1998, in order to investigate the relative photometry produced by adaptive optics within the isoplanatic patch. Iterative Blind Deconvolution (IBD) and Parametric Blind Deconvolution (PBD) techniques were used to post-process the data, and produced cons...
